TOMB RAIDER LEGEND - MAGNETIC GRAPPLING DEVICE (IN-GAME STYLE)

Please note that this is a tutorial to recreate the in-game look of the grappler, not the rendered version or the design the official Model was wearing.

First, have a look at these patterns. You'll see two Dekagons, one with a round circle in it, and a full one. Print these out, making sure that each oktagon has a diameter of about 10cm. Cut out the shapes - these are your patterns.

Next, find material you want to make your grappler from. Some people use Fimo or modelling clay, others prefer wood or plastic, even styrofoam can do. There are no exact measurements given anywhere, but the final device should be approximately 3cm thick and 10cm in diameter.

Use the patterns from above to cut two Dekagons from your chosen material, and don't forget to cut the round hole in one of them. Then glue the two pieces together. When working with Fimo, bake your grappler now, of if you're using clay, let it dry for about a day (or according to the clay's description).

You're basically done with the shape now, all you have to do is decorate it. Lara's grappler looks like it has compass-like markings in the inner part, so use the above graphic again - just print it, cut it out, and glue it inside the round depression in the middle of the grappler. Then use red and black markers to paint the markings on the outer ring - and your're done!

Hint: There are several ways to mount your grappler on your Legend gunbelt - A very simple and practical one is to use magnetic buttons.
